- Are the things you are doing feeding the agendas, and pockets of others who care little for your well-being?
- Are you being manipulated by media, advertisers, politicians?
- Are you using the time you have to create the life you want?
- Are you as in control of your life as is possible, or as much as you would like to be?
The compelling signals in the system are designed to pull you out of yourself and engage you in behaviors that serve others. Others who have utter disregard for you, your welfare, or the welfare of anyone or anything other than the amassing of power to perpetuate the dominance of their position. And so it has been for thousands of years. It is an unstoppable force.
What if anything can you, or need you do about it?
You can do what most people seem to be doing…… “bread and circuses”…….
“Roman politicians devised a plan in 140 B.C.E. to win the votes of their citizens: giving out cheap food and entertainment, “bread and circuses”, they determined…”would be the most effective way to rise to power.”
And to maintain power, by putting the citizens to sleep with appeasements.
While you indulge in 3D TV, IMAX movies, cheap electronic toys, social media, food, alcohol, sex, mood altering pharmaceuticals, et al to provide the “palliatives,” to keep you in your place, wasting your time, while others reshape the world you live in to serve themselves.
As you can see from the date of the Latin metaphor panem et circenses (bread and circuses), fundamentally, nothing has changed, except the scale, and the accoutrements of the era for over 2000 years.
IMO, the answer to questions 1 and 2 above is a resounding YES…….it’s unavoidable, no one is exempt, no one. The delineation is drawn on the basis of those who realize it, and those who don’t. The depth to which everyone is being subjected to social engineering today is unequaled in history. If we’re not there yet, the time draws near when a piece of software, and a base of mined data about YOU will have manipulated you and may be able to predict your next move before you even think of it.
The only way, even momentarily, “to straighten out our own lives,” is to “know” yourself as you are when you are free to create the direction you want to be moving in. You see, you can’t necessarily do anything about the world around you, but you can do a lot to alter your perception of it, and response to it.
After all, when you think about it….in a way, each of us is sitting in his own private high tech, movie theater. Each of us hears what we hear, sees what we see, tastes what we taste, feels what we feel…based on the data we are receiving through our senses. But the nervous system is very complex, and a lot happens between the time when the stimulus occurs, and the decision we make about what it means creates a response.
When we were first born………….there was very little data about meaning present in your body….yet now, by the time you reach your twenties, or thirties…you accumulated, and stored meaning making stories based on what happened in the past. This can be useful when the stories serve to get you where you want to go, but what happens when the stories are the misconceptions of a five year old trying to function in a 35 year old body?
You’ve got to update your system.
“Bread and circuses” is set up to keep you stuck as you are, to make sure you respond in a predictable way. Only a handful of people have studied the way humans respond en mass to information. Read Propaganda by Edward Bernays…………..
